Washington State Records First US Coronavirus Death
While Trump ‘Privatizes’ the Research & Development of Tests and Vaccines
A Washington state man died today (Saturday, February 29) of coronavirus, according to both federal and county health officials. As of this writing, the unidentified man is the first death in the US known to have been caused by the virus.
“It is a sad day in our state as we learn that a Washingtonian has died from COVID-19. Our hearts go out to his family and friends,” Governor Jay Inslee said. “We will continue to work toward a day where no one dies from this virus.”
Just last night, Washington also confirmed that the state has two other coronavirus cases, both with no known origin. That makes a total of four infected persons with unknown causes — all on the west coast.
As for the other two Washington cases, health officials said Friday that a teenager and a woman in her 50s who had recently traveled to South Korea both had contracted the infection, also known as Covid-19.
Donald Trump is scheduled to address the nation again this afternoon and will purportedly discuss the latest coronavirus news.
Finally, the Food and Drug Administration on Saturday gave the go-ahead to certain private labs to begin development and use of coronavirus diagnostic tests and vaccines without prior agency review.
This raises the question as to why the FDA itself is not doing the research and development on this virus. Could it be that Trump and company are attempting to “privatizing” (read: monetizing) this process in order to favor a few select friends?
Just sayin’….Just askin’.
