Very interesting. Back in ’68, I was in college and acting in a play about “blackness” at that time, including the rise of the Black Panthers. The play was directed by a very dark-skinned East Indian woman, a political science Ph.D. candidate. She told us that in India, the “Untouchables” were so despised that if even their shadow fell upon you (as a higher caste person) you would be defiled. Is that true?
