Trevor Noah recently juxtaposed Tuberville's and the "modern" GOP's position/comments on "race" with the rabid racists going all the way back to Reconstruction, the Red Summer of 1919, the 1940s and '50s Dixiecrats, and the 1960's opponents of Black Power and the Civil Rights Movement.

The words...the language, and of course, the sentiment and actions were damn-near identical in all eras. These folk have not and will never change.
