This rings especially true in my personal and family's case. My parents and grandparents had been Republicans right up until FDR's first election way back in 1932.

In 1960, after JFK sent his brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, down to help get Dr. King out of jail, most black people, my family included, have been Democrats.
