There was no such thing as "Republicans" or "Democrats" back then.
All I (and many other honest researchers) am saying is that Bacon's Rebellion is where and when the "divide and conquer" regimen began in this country. There were no "white" people at that time (1676), only Irishmen, Englishmen, Frenchmen, Germans, Jews (sort of), Italians (sort of), etc. None of these people become "white" until rich "white" planters (the aristocracy), who exploited everybody who was not rich, told them that they were "white" as opposed to black. And then rewarded them with "freedom dues" (land, tools, foodstuffs, and guns) when their indentiture ended after 7 to 14 years. Blacks, at the same time, were relegated to lifetime bonded involuntary servitude --slavery, including all of their progeny.
There are many books and studies on this, including Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow."
But perhaps James Baldwin said it best: "I am only black because you think that you are white."
