The problem is (and always has been) that core 40 to 45 percent of the GOP who have not wavered no matter what Trump says or does. That number has remained constant since his trip down the escalator in 2015.

Whether Trump goes to jail or not, whether Republicans win elections or not, there are enough of these people to continue to keep this country in disarray for the foreseeable future.

Besides, if Trump goes down, they will simply transfer their fealty to the nearest Trump-like figure.
