However, “resistance” is all too often whatever the cops say it is. Is cursing them “resistance”? How about refusal to produce I.D.? Especially in jurisdictions where you are not required to show I.D. unless the cop “suspects” you of having (or about to) commit a crime? Even then, they do not get to be judge, jury, and executioner of whatever law a “suspect” may have broken.
As for better “training”of cops, why is it that they don’t seem to need special training to NOT choke out, stomp, shoot, kill unarmed white people in most circumstances, just black/brown/indigenous people?
The point is this: “Policing” is rooted in the original slave catching and slave patrols. Policing as we know it today did not exist until after the slaves were “freed.” Many of those slave patrollers simply transferred their “skills” from private plantation owners into state-sponsored, tax-payer jobs.
That mindset has never gone away, and can be found in just about every single precinct house in the country.
