Stacey Abrams ‘Absolutely’ Supports Sen. Joe Manchin’s Latest Voting Rights Proposal
In a CNN interview today (June 17), voting rights super-star activist, racial justice warrior, former state legislator, and Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams declared that she “absolutely” endorses and supports Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) latest “new and improved” proposed compromise on at least one of the two voting rights bills now languishing in the US Senate.
What Senator Manchin is putting forward are some basic building blocks that we need to ensure that democracy is accessible no matter your geography, and those provisions that he’s setting forth are strong ones that will create a level playing field, will create standards that do not vary from state to state and I think will ensure that every American has improved access to vote despite the onslaught of state legislation seeking to restrict access to the right to vote, Abrams told CNN anchor John Berman.
Senator Manchin’s office released a three-page memo delineating his putatively “new and improved” voting rights proposal after earlier this month upsetting just about every establishment Democrat, “progressives,” and certainly voting rights “activists” in an op-ed declaring his own “absolute” non-support for the “For the People Act.” That bill would usher in a long-overdue and complete overhaul of the voting…
