Sorry....but you are selling teachers way too short. In high school, I had a number of brilliant, dedicated, concerned, and selfless teachers who regularly dared to and bucked the conventional wisdom and taught us REAL history and "social studies." They exposed me to books beyond the textbook which always upheld the status quo, and which opened my eyes to the fact that I had to go beyond "public" school if I really wanted to learn anything.
