So very true. When I was in college back in the 60s/70s, "revolution" was in the very air we breathed. For the briefest of moments, white students "united" with us to end racism. Then came Nixon and the crack down. Those white kids cut their long hair, put on suits and ties, and went back to their fathers' and uncles' farms and businesses, leaving us to face Nixon's (and Richard Daley's--Chicago) storm troopers.

Now? They're the parents/grandparents of today's Trumpeteers.

They never seem to change. Always revert back to their "safe" spaces when it comes time to get real. Not all, of course...but the vast, vast majority of them.
