Pretty much agree with the sentiment expressed in this essay.
But! I stopped “whitesplaining” long ago…you know, explaining white people to white people. My experience (and I’m 70 years old now), and my parents’ experience, and my grandparents’ experience, and my great grandparents’ experience is that white people are gonna be white people; that white supremacy is embedded in their DNA and only they can do anything about it. Most of them don’t want to do anything about it because they are too steeped in the benefits white racism/white supremacy affords them.
And so you get occasional situations like this young lady….sometimes it just slips out.
Baldwin said it best years ago, of course, in paraphrase: America does not have a Negro problem. America has a white problem.
