Phew! Don't know how I missed this gem.

I gave up long ago trying to crack open white-owned/operated media outlets. Most of 'em are run by white men who see any critique of the status quo as an attack and an attempt to "take over" or "fundamentally transform" their vice-grip on power. Very, very, very few black writers are "allowed" into "leading" outlets; and most of them must, as you say, write "race neutral" drivel. There are exceptions of course...but they prove the rule.
