On the other hand, I'm old enough to remember when one of us did something "good," especially in the eyes of white people, we were labeled by both black and white as "a credit to our race." That credit, however, did not transfer into better jobs, housing, education, and certainly not at the local branch of any national bank when we applied for REAL "credit" or a mortgage, or a simple new car loan.
