Look, I don’t usually do this — explain this racist shit to white people. Most of them already know what’s happening. All they have to do is look around their lily white enclaves, clubs, offices, homes and neighborhoods.

That is, I do not think that Todd or even most white people are “consciously” racist. Just the opposite. Most white people see themselves as fair and honest and “even-handed.”

But most white people also refuse to see that because of their sordid history as a people on this soil that they still benefit from all of the atrocities committed in their name and for their benefit against Native Americans, Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, etc. That refusal to see, to understand and to deal honestly with that history blinds them to the need, to the demand, to the requirement for “justice.”

As for Sistah Hannah-Jones, she is the reason we marched and rioted and revolted and died in the ’60s. She’s not alone. They are legion. And this generation of young black people will not put up with what we had to or what my parents had to endure.
