Killing Whiteness. ‘Reformed’ White Supremacist Explains How It’s Done
Russell Ellis is a self-described “reformed white supremacist.” In the attached video (below), he shows us how he was born, raised and “socialized” into a system and social structure that did not objectively, openly idealize or praise, or really even notice, its all-white character and zeitgeist. Whiteness, Ellis says, did not have to advertise or promote itself because white superiority over and above every other known and possible expression of humanity was just a given, an obvious and clear historical and contemporary “fact of life.”
The supremacy of white people, of whiteness, you see, has been and remains normalized at least since Columbus first stumbled into the Bahamas. It’s no coincidence, of course, that Columbus only found “success” after Shakespeare’s “blackamoors” of North Africa were finally forced out of Spain after a 700-year “occupation.”
Since then, whiteness has been deployed as the world’s most destructive and effective battering ram, wielded by all of Columbus’ successors. Whiteness has become so thoroughly and successfully, and so violently ingrained into the entire earth’s ethos and ethic that for the un-reformed Russell Ellises of the world, whiteness is usually, simply, unseen and unremarked upon because it forms the fundamental constituent and sine qua non for the whole idea…
