Interesting.

My only quibble with this piece is that your focus on black women is too narrow. Yeah...of course, you are a black woman and write about your personal experience.

This same anti-intellectualism vibe also applies to the brothers who, like yours truly, were accused of "acting white," or "talking 'proper'," as they called it back in the day. When getting good grades was viewed by the "cool kids" as somehow "square" or un-cool.

But if you could jump high and run fast...if you were the star quarterback or point guard, well...then...you got all the accolades.

it seems to be the same situation today. The black chemist, engineer, doctor, teacher, or attorney must struggle for recognition -- and clients -- usually. Whether you are male or female.

I did not go to college in order to get a job. I got my own three degrees -- bachelors, paralegal, and masters, because I love knowledge. just knowing shit.

I never worried much about the money or the title or the office or the big car...or the girls. I knew all of that and they would show up whenever I chose to indulge.

Men (black, white or otherwise) who shun women because they are far-sighted enough, smart enough, hard-working enough, to endure the rigors of higher education....well...they re simply missing out.

Take it from a well seasoned senior: In the end, brothers, unless you are somebody like Coach Prime Time, our mind muscles will carry you much further -- all the way to end -- than any of your physical muscles.
