If I understand you correctly, you're saying why leave the US since we have "invested" so much time, energy, blood, sweat, tears...and life in this joint?
From the moment the first slaves were forced upon these shores, there were those who insisted upon, attempted, and some succeeded in "returning" to the Motherland -- from Paul Cuffee, to Henry Highland Garnett (before the Civil War), to Marcus Garvey, to the Hebrew Israelites.
Neither Stevie nor I are urging black people to abandon America given today's realities. That ship has sailed (or didn't sail) years ago. What I hear Stevie saying is that for people our age who have been fighting these demons since birth...that we are simply tired, weary, and, like Dubois did in his eighties, we want some final peace and quiet and and honor....just plain old respect for our humanity. The masses of white people refuse to see us as fully human. Their history condemns them, not me or mine.
Finally, this new generation of "woke" young black folk seems to have picked up where we left off...and might, just might -- finally -- achieve the "freedom" (including reparations) that has been denied us, that has so eluded us as "Americans" for the last 401 years. Hope so, but at 71, I am more of a witness now than a participant. And, although Ghana is no paradise by any measure, at least white racism/white supremacy are not the main issues a citizen (natural or naturalized) has to deal with.
