Hmmm. Didn't know this. Thought alopecia was some sort of genetic/hereditary disorder, like male pattern baldness.

I used to feel for my two sisters when I watched our mother "hot comb" their hair every Saturday night in preparation for church the next day. I often thought that literally burning your hair into submission just can't be good!

Oh, and by the way, Madam C.J. Walker became the first independent female millionaire (no husband or man helped her) . Why? How? She invented the "hot comb" and black women worldwide (but especially in the US) made her the Oprah Winfrey of her time.
