May I suggest you read this book: "White Too Long -- The Legacy of White supremacy in American Christianity" by Robert P. Jones. He also did an earlier, even more relevant tome entitled "The End of White christian America." Both books explain your neighbor's behavior...and how to handle it without risking your own peace of mind.
