Bystanders, including at least one parent of a child murdered by Salvador Ramos, pleaded, begged, yelled, screamed, and otherwise urged law enforcement officers to do their job as both groups (the public and police) stood outside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. All of them were within earshot of the gunshots killing nineteen grade-schoolers and their two teachers.

Try to imagine the terrible mix of angst and profound worry roiling through these parents’ bodies and psyches. Uncertainty, frustration, disbelief, and, finally, anger at these cops’ obvious and callous disregard for their kids could simply not be contained. Their anger spilled forth…strike that…exploded as it dawned on them that this particular set of “protectors and servers” were not going to do anything to save their babies’ lives. They repeatedly offered to help the cops do what they were supposed to do, to do what they had been specifically trained to do. They demanded that the cops do something — anything! Finally, a number of parents actually tried forcing their way passed the cops in order to enter the building themselves and at least try to put a stop to the killing.
