Dr. King, as great as he was, was not the only "inspiration" for "positive change" in the racial (racist) dynamics of the US.

I have always contended that it was the "alternative" inspiration of Malcolm X who served as a more direct "by any means necessary" tour de force that made LBJ and King hurry up and pass the Civil Rights Bills of '64, '65...and later in 1968. Keep in mind that this whole country was literally on fire with black rage, riot, rebellion and revolution. LBJ had no choice but to embrace Dr. King...cause Malcolm and millions of disaffected black people were watching and waiting in the wings.
