Dr. Burroughs was an angel on this earth. I first met her after Mayor Harold Washington appointed her to the Chicago Park District Board. I just cold-called her office and asked for an interview for a profile I wanted to do for either Ebony or Essence. We met in the coffee shop of Chicago’s main library downtown. It was so busy and crowded there that she goes, “Herb, this ain’t working. I can’t hear you and you can’t hear me. Why don’t you come out to house this weekend and have dinner, meet Charlie (her husband)) and let’s do it right?”
One day I’ll write about that dinner. But suffice it to say now that that meeting changed my life.
There are videos of her reading her poetry and doing lectures, etc. Look her up. You’ll thank me.
Oh…and THANK YOU for your support, YOUR writing, your reading, your comments. You’ve quickly become a real force, a leader here.
Peace & Power,
