Don’t really have to read all that “close” to get that slavery and guns went hand-in-hand, even before the Revolution. We’re all taught that the “Minute Men” were those patriotic souls who were always primed and ready “at a minute’s notice” to defend against any potential British invasion, right?
Wrong. Those men’s primary responsibility was to stand ready to put down the two most feared, most dreaded…and at times most expected “events” of colonial America: Indian attack and slave revolt. The Minute Men were the original “militia” referred to in the 2nd Amendment and were required to “keep their powder dry” just in case the Indians and/or the slaves got out of pocket — which happened much more often than we are told today.
Excellent analysis, as always.
