Doc Anderson lays it all out, going back further than the Black Codes to the Slave Codes. Slave owners’ greatest fear was (and remains) an armed black populace. The Black Codes simply updated the Slave Codes to deal with the newly freed black people during and ever after Emancipation, Reconstruction, Jim & Jane Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, the Black Power Movement (see the Black Panthers), and now the 2nd Amendment fever dream of so-called white “conservatives.”
