Assuming your question is serious:
I had absolutely great "English" teachers in high school. Teachers who were sticklers about "English composistion."
I also read then and continue to read just about everything I can get my hands on. James Baldwin's piercing novels and essays also impressed me to the point that I foolishly thought that I could emulate him.
In college I participated in poetry readings and got exposed to other folks' literary skills and aspirations. My own poetry gained some notice on Indiana U's campus, and was actually published in something called the "Negro Literature Forum."
That was 1966. I've been hooked ever since.
