As "Black History Month" approaches, may I offer a couple of books readers may look into for even deeper history and analysis of white domestic terrorism?
Imbram X. Kendi's Stamped From The Beginning --The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, Bold Type Books, 2016;
Edward E. Baptist's The Half Has Never Been Told — Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism, Basic Books, 2014.
These two cover in granular detail the New Orleans Massacre and many, many others.
And, if you really want to know why white people act like they act, there is: Dr. Nell Painter's The History of White People, W.W. Norton & Co., 2010.
Oh...and I recently posted a short piece here that touches upon this matter: https://medium.com/the-polis/atlanta-d-a-convenes-special-grand-jury-to-investigate-trump-5b9ea2a240b3
