And then there's this: Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation (Executive Order No. 95) did not free a single black slave....no not one. The order only applied to those black people enslaved in the Confederacy, the slave states. And, guess what...those white folks were not about to free anybody regardless of what the "federal" government said or did. Those people did not "free" the slaves in the "border" states, i.e., Kentucky, Delaware, Maryland, and Missouri (if my memory serves).

The masses of black people were freed only because the Union Army defeated the Confederate Army, and then the Armyi had to force most of the south to abide by the 13th Amendment, whichis what and when really freed black people (if you call this "freedom"). By then, Lincoln was dead and had nothing to do with passage of that amendment.

But your point is well made. Without going too deep, I will say that in my own life I have had some white people help me in my darkest hour swhen black people wouldn't. That's why I am a witness that not all white people are crazy.
