After seven decades now of living with this thing, I have finally figured it out: Many, many millions (perhaps a plurality) of white people throughout the earth simply do not believe that black people are human…or, at least, not as human as they are. Thus, they have and will continue to perceive and understand “equality” and “justice” in zero-sum terms. For them, to be “equal” is to “lose” — to lose their position of dominance. To share this earth and its resources “equally”, fairly, for them, is to “lose,” or at least diminish their “superior” position in the racial hierarchy which they created and maintain specifically and purposely to dominate all others in perpetuity —and in every meaningful human endeavor

The sad part, of course, is that only they can defeat and ultimately end white supremacy. But there has never, ever been even close to a majority of white people willing to do so.
