A good review of the '65 Voting Rights Act. But everything (and more) in that Act would be re-upped with passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Bill now being held hostage by one or two Democratic senators.

The John Lewis bill also would eliminate gerrymandering by state legislatures and set up nonpartisan (not bipartisan) commissions to re-district and draw sensible, equitable congressional districts every ten years. As things stand now, GOP legislatures who represent a minority of voters get to pick their voters (instead of voters picking them), and the result, of course, is that the GOP wields disproportionate power in both state and the national legislature. This is an even more sophisticated way and means of nothing more and nothing less than "minority rule" --ala apartheid South Africa 25 years ago.
