This body shaming seems to be limited mainly to "Western" societies. In most of Africa, the "larger" women are considered the most "beautiful." Is that still "body shaming" but in the other direction?
We can’t let [the failed coup d’état] go because it directly connects with our legacy of racism and hate in this country that stems from the genocide of the indigenous Americans and the enslavement of African Americans. The legacy of that is institutional racism and white nationalism; and if we don’t deal with it directly and explicitly in every institution, it will continue to persist and grow and permeate; and it will lead to a Donald Trump in the future. ~ Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY)
Newly elected Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was in the Capitol building on January 6. He…
Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please. They do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing, already given, and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living. …
As always, your passion is palpable, appreciated...and needed. You speak/write for a lot of people.
Medgar Evers, Martin, Malcolm, Fred Hampton, and countless others, were all victims of the FBI's and Hoover's COINTEL Program which had as its only goal to "neutralize" black resistance to "the white power structure." It succeeded spectacularly. By killing off or imprisoning black leadership, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements shriveled up and died along with them. (An astonishing number of Black Panther Party members are still rotting away in prisons throughout this land).
The same dynamic is being played out today with the "mysterious" deaths of so many Black Lives Matter leaders and supporters.
In 1976, after finally winning his first Grammy for “Best Album,” folk songster Paul Simon gave one of the most astounding acceptance speeches of all time. After thanking his fans, his producers, fellow musicians and singers, musical engineers… and even his parents, he then said:
“But most of all I want to thank Stevie Wonder for not making an album this year.”
You see, Simon thanked Stevie because for the previous two years running, Stevie Wonder had won successive Album of the Year Grammies, and indeed, after skipping ‘76, he won again in 1977.
A Massachusetts high school football coach has recently filed a lawsuit claiming that he was fired because of his objections to his seventh-grade daughter’s school’s “politically charged curriculum.”
The New Boston Post provides the blow-by-blow:
A high school football coach fired after raising objections to pro-Black Lives Matter material in his daughter’s seventh-grade history class has sued school officials in Dedham, claiming they violated his First Amendment right to free speech. …
Yesterday, February 12, 2021 (appropriately enough, on Abraham Lincoln’s 212th birthday), and at the close of the third day of the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump, the US Senate unanimously passed a resolution granting Capitol Hill Officer Eugene Goodman its highest civilian award, the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor. …
“The police are not here to create disorder. They’re here to preserve disorder.” ~ Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, in the midst of the 1968 Chicago riots following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
And so, here we stand again…
Between accused Killer-Kyle Rittenhouse and the Capitol Building rioters, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists, and coup plotters, white privilege covers them all with a heavy, tried, true and tested, well-worn security blanket reserved just for them and for just such an occasion.
You’ve no doubt seen the reports of any number of the Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol now…
“If you don’t understand white supremacy, then everything else will only confuse you.”
— Neely Fuller, Jr., author and mentor to the late Dr. Frances Cress Welsing
The most important and intriguing thing about white supremacy is not its cruelty nor its utter inhumanity. To be sure, white supremacy is that — cruel and inhumane. But its most salient aspect is its tenacity, its sheer ability to simply endure over the last five centuries. It has done so by deftly adapting to changing conditions and circumstances. Whenever whte supremacy/white racism is exposed as the consummate evil and scourge that it…
